JBS Redevelopment
JBS Foods donated 26 acres and $500,000 to develop a new neighborhood and destination park, sparking a four-year community-driven process. A 40+ member committee of community partners engaged in grassroots efforts to design a concept plan that truly reflects the needs and desires of the people. The project has completed two phases—Community Visioning and Concept Plan, and Architectural and Engineering Construction Documents—and has moved into the construction phase.
The JBS Redevelopment Project exemplifies best practice in planning by incorporating multi-cultural, multi-lingual, inclusive, and equitable engagement processes. The development plan includes a Grand Social Boulevard, a destination park, an urban farm, and various housing options tailored to the needs of the community. Extensive community engagement ensured the plan met the needs of recent immigrants and extended families, with input from organizations like Habitat for Humanity and NeighborWorks Green Bay. The project, supported by significant community and private sector interest, is set to transform a Green Bay neighborhood, with construction beginning less than a year after the concept plan was adopted.
