University of Wisconsin-Madison
Morgridge Hall College of
Computing & Artificial Intelligence
Morgridge Hall houses the University of Wisconsin-Madison's School of Computer, Data & Information Sciences (CDIS). The landmark facility brings computing and data-related disciplines together under one roof for the first time, creating a hub for interdisciplinary research, innovation, and education.
The 342,990-square-foot, LEED Platinum-certified building is designed to support collaboration among students, faculty, researchers, and industry partners while advancing the University's leadership in computing, data science, and artificial intelligence. More than a classroom and research facility, Morgridge Hall serves as a center for learning and discovery, providing flexible spaces that foster connection, creativity, and knowledge sharing across disciplines.
GRAEF provided civil and structural engineering services for the project. The team's work included site design, stormwater management, and infrastructure coordination for the urban campus site located between major roadways and pedestrian corridors. A key feature of the site design is an innovative stormwater capture and reuse system that includes two 25,000-gallon tanks for building use and a 37,000-gallon tank for irrigation. Additional design considerations included loading dock access, barrier-free entrances, courtyard design, steam tunnel coordination, phased construction, and contaminated soil management. GRAEF also provided structural engineering for stair, handrail, and guardrail systems throughout the facility.
