Plexus Corporation Headquarters
Plexus Corporation completed a new, 104,000-square-foot global headquarters, bringing together employees from five former buildings around Neenah, Wisconsin. The headquarters is on a former 7.6-acre paper mill site in downtown Neenah. GRAEF surveyors prepared a boundary survey and certified survey map to subdivide the parcel and a topographic survey for the City of Neenah.
GRAEF provided site/civil engineering, survey, landscape architecture and structural engineering and incorporated sustainable principles throughout the project.
Civil engineers worked very closely with the City and the Plexus team to coordinate site development. Challenges included an expedited time frame, working around a new steam and process water pipeline both above ground and tunnel, coordination with Canadian National Railroad on pedestrian crossings and adjacencies, and permitting with Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
The layout of the building on the industrial site with existing foundations made for a challenging structural design. The building foundation consisted of piles to avoid the existing foundations and straddle an existing water canal beneath the building. Much of the building’s structural system was exposed so the structural system was designed to be as simple as possible. The design team used an integrated project delivery approach and BIM for all aspects of design, multi-discipline coordination, and enhanced visualization.
