Palos Community Hospital
Palos Community Hospital is a 436-bed facility on a 45-acre wooded parcel in Palos Heights. GRAEF provided civil engineering on several projects at the hospital from a small cardiac catheter laboratory addition to 24-acre site improvements for a new parking structure and central plant.
Site/civil services addressed construction staging and patient parking relocation; temporary detention to accommodate stormwater management requirements during construction; underground stormwater detention; permitting with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago; erosion control design and permitting; ambulance turning design at the new emergency department entrance with significant space constraints; minimizing the impact of a new utility tunnel on existing infrastructure; and accommodating future expansion plans.
GRAEF provided structural engineering for Palos’ Surgery-ICU Bed Tower Addition. The 395,000 square foot, eight-level addition has two basement and six levels of beds. The structure is conventionally reinforced cast-in-place flat slabs with interior drop panels and perimeter beams. An analysis of the existing building to allow for modification was also provided.
