IDOT I-132 Grand Avenue Construction Management
GRAEF helped to provide Phase III inspection services on this project. The primary feature was the construction of a dry-land bridge, replacing an existing structure on an IDOT roadway.
Project scope included hot mix asphalt (HMA) roadway resurfacing, 3800 feet of new plain cement concrete (PCC) sidewalk including 12 ADA-compliant ramps, roadway widening from 2 to 3 lanes, erosion and sediment control, multi-stage maintenance of traffic, drainage improvements including over 2700 feet of storm sewer, bridge construction, and pile-driving. Temporary facilities were constructed, including 8800 square feet of temporary sidewalks and about 1000 linear feet of temporary PCC pavement. Utility conflicts including communications and water were considered during construction.
A GRAEF inspector participated in inspection and observation of various on-site construction activities including demolition work and new construction by taking measurements, making written observations, and helping complete and check various IDOT Inspector’s Daily Reports (IDRs). The inspector coordinated with other inspectors to ensure work was completed appropriately and safely. While at the field office, plans and quantities were reviewed.
