West Ridge Elementary School
GRAEF completed site/civil and structural engineering design for the new, 120,000-square-foot West Ridge Elementary School on a three-acre site. The building is three stories with steel frame and masonry construction. Site improvements include a new parking lot, access drives, permeable fire lane, and outdoor plaza, in addition to new utilities and landscaping.
The project achieved LEED® Silver certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. The project incorporated a number of unique stormwater management facilities, including a rain garden, a bio-retention area, and two above-grade water storage tanks designed to collect a portion of the roof runoff for use in landscape watering.
Design work was completed under an aggressive schedule and required close coordination with the Public Building Commission, Chicago Public Schools, and various planning and review agencies.
