City of De Pere VFW Aquatic Facility Named as WPRA 2021 Outstanding Aquatics Facility Design and Renovation Project

GRAEF is excited to share that the VFW Aquatic Facility, located in De Pere, Wis. has been named the 2021 Outstanding Facility Design and Renovation Project by the Wisconsin Park and Recreation Association.

The City of De Pere was fortunate to have two pool facilities; however, both were built in the early 1970’s and were reaching the end of their life cycle.  In 2016-2017, the City embarked on a study to determine the future of aquatic facilities in De Pere. This effort culminated in the decision to move forward toward a new aquatic facility at VFW Park, replacing the old pool and buildings. The ultimate goal for the City was to replace the original VFW Pool with an aquatic facility, with significant input and direction from its residents.

The VFW Aquatic Facility includes a 5,300-square-foot recreational/lap pool with multiple height diving boards and deep well, a colorful double body slide, drop slide, climbing wall, an in-pool seating area, and activity area with a basketball hoop and water walk. There is also a separate 1800-square-foot tot pool with a zero-depth activity area with geysers, and spray features, including a play structure for toddlers. An entirely new 6,150-square-foot bathhouse containing bathrooms/changing rooms, office and guard spaces, first aid, entry lobby, meeting rooms, family changing rooms, and a concessions wing was also part of the project.

Congratulations to the project team, the City of De Pere Parks, Recreation and Forestry Staff, and city leadership. The team will be able to accept this prestigeous honor at the WPRA  2022 Annual Conference & Trade Show in February 2022.
