MRMC N. 87th Street Reconstruction
Milwaukee Regional Medical Center (MRMC) is a consortium of six health care institutions located in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. MRMC enlisted GRAEF for planning and engineering services for the reconstruction of N. 87th Street between Wisconsin Avenue and Watertown Plank Road.
87th Street is a comprehensive multimodal transportation corridor, also known as a “complete street.” It is now the City of Wauwatosa's most complete street - with dedicated spaces for pedestrians, cyclists, buses, and cars to easily and safely operate.
The existing roadway had not been changed significantly in over 30 years, and in that time the number of patients/visitors to campus has more than tripled to over 1.5 million annual visitors. The North 87th Street project is a major investment by the campus; not only will it facilitate traffic flow, but it will improve the experience for non-vehicular users with protected bike lanes, widened sidewalks, and safe signalized crossings. GRAEF provided a wide array of engineering, planning, and inspection services for the project, in partnership with the MRMC, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, Froedtert Hospital, Medical College of Wisconsin, Versiti, Cotter Consulting (owners representative), and Payne and Dolan of the Walbec Group (prime contractor).
