Monroe Clinic Northwest Addition
The Monroe Clinic completed a four-level, 226,000 square foot, state-of-the-art building that connects to its clinic. The addition features a seating area with a two-story water fountain, fireplace, café, and gift shop. The top floor offers panoramic views, conference room, and outdoor seating for 50 on a covered terrace.
The addition has 57 acute and critical care beds, expanded emergency imaging and surgical services, and updated cardiac and rehabilitative services.
GRAEF provided structural and site/civil engineering and landscape architecture. Structural engineers designed concrete shear walls and drag struts, columns, spread footings, mat foundations and retaining walls. Building systems are housed in a penthouse at the roof level and a two-story central utility plant accessed from the lower level of the building.
Site/civil engineers were responsible for site redevelopment due to the relocation of the clinic’s main entrance. Design work included re-design of site storm sewer systems and parking lots to accommodate ADA accessibility on a site with 15 feet of grade change. Design work involved storm sewer relocation, new sanitary sewer services, City of Monroe watermain relocation, new helipad design, site grading, and paving design for parking lots, drop-offs, loading dock, and bulk oxygen and nitrogen pad. Substantial coordination and design efforts were required to relocate utility services.
Our landscape architects assisted in site and walkway layout, pedestrian and vehicle circulation, parking areas, and site amenities. GRAEF also designed several healing gardens integrating exposed subsurface bedrock along with establishment of native plant communities indigenous to the area. Sustainable design practices were integrated through the use of native plants, storm water bio-infiltration, and permeable pavement solutions.
