GRAEF Parking Structure Project Honored with Excellence in Repair Award by ICRI

GRAEF Showcases Northeastern Illinois University Parking Facility Restoration.

We are thrilled to announce that GRAEF has been named one of three finalists for the 2024 Project of the Year Award by the International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI). Additionally, GRAEF received an Excellence in Repair award in the Parking Structures category, underscoring our commitment to innovation and precision in concrete repair and restoration.

Projects are evaluated on criteria such as innovation, materials, engineering value, functionality, and aesthetics.

Our work at Northeastern Illinois University involved the complex repair of a five-level parking structure compromised by a car fire in 2017, which damaged the structural integrity of the fourth-level double tees. To restore and enhance the structure’s resilience, our team expertly replaced the affected double tees with precambered, cast-in-place concrete, ensuring a seamless fit with the existing precast elements. This intricate project required rigorous calculations and a strong collaboration between the design team and contractor to navigate accessibility and site challenges effectively.

The successful completion of this project highlights the skill and dedication of our team and contractor, who together delivered a long-term, durable solution that met the client’s needs while minimizing disruptions on campus.

We are honored by this recognition and proud to have showcased our expertise in concrete repair at the ICRI Fall Convention.
