Covered Bridge Road Reconstruction
Covered Bridge Road Bridge, running north-south over Cedar Creek on Covered Bridge Road next to the historic Covered Bridge in the Town of Cedarburg, was rated structurally deficient with a sufficiency rating of 43.3 and an NBI rating of 4 for the deck, structural evaluation, and superstructure. The bridge had numerous spalls and areas of delamination on the deck, piers, and sidewalks, necessitating a complete replacement. Covered Bridge Road, classified as a local road with an ADT of 400, required significant improvements. In coordination with the WisDOT local program, GRAEF developed plans for the bridge's reconstruction, including the complete replacement of Structure B-45-013, the bridge roadway approach, guardrail, pavement marking, and roadway signing. The new structure was built adjacent to the last remaining original covered bridge in Wisconsin, constructed in 1876 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The project required significant coordination with the State Historic Preservation Office and Wisconsin Historical Society to ensure the design had no adverse effects on the historic structure.
