BMO Tower
The BMO Tower at 320 South Canal Street in Chicago is a 51-story, 1.7 million square-foot building constructed on the site of a previous Amtrak parking lot. The modern tower has many unique features including a corrugated glass and metal façade, terraced setback and V-shaped structural frames. The building’s amenities include private terraces on select floors, a fitness center, state-of-the-art conference rooms, food services and a tenant lounge.
The building is situated next to a 1.5-acre urban park, and directly across from Union Station, providing easy access for commuters and a space to get outside and enjoy fresh air. For those who bring their own vehicle, the building offers an underground parking garage with 350 car and 100 bicycle parking spaces.
The $900 million project was completed in 2021. It is the 24th tallest building in Chicago at 727 feet tall. GRAEF’s steel detailing experts provided the BIM modeling for this project with 10,723 steel tonnage. The team was selected due to their reputation for quality work and familiarity with unique scenarios. In this building’s case, the lower level features massive W-shaped columns with stainless steel cladding around the structural steel, which required additional detailing.
