Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center Patient Care Pavilion

The Orange Coast Patient Care Pavilion is a 163,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art medical office building and the new façade of the Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center. The six-story facility opened in 2009 as the tallest building in Fountain Valley.

GRAEF provided structural design for this $50 million facility located in a high seismic zone. The structural system included steel framed floors with composite beams supporting concrete slabs on metal deck. Lateral loads are resisted by ordinary braced frames located in strategic corners of the building. The floor plan is triangular and terraced on one end with an atrium and outdoor cafe over the entrance.

The pavilion attaches to the existing hospital through two walkways and is now the main entrance to the hospital. The facility features sophisticated diagnostic equipment such as a Linear Accelerator, MRI, CAT, and PET scan. The pavilion houses four operating rooms, an infusion therapy center, cancer care, radiation therapy services, imaging services, a cardiac rehabilitation gym, physical therapy facilities and outpatient surgery suites.
