WisDOT USH 45 Reconstruction - Lovers Lane
The USH 45 Reconstruction Project in the City of Franklin, Wisconsin, involved the full-depth reconstruction of a 1-mile corridor, significantly enhancing the area’s infrastructure, safety, and accessibility. GRAEF served as the construction engineer and inspector, leading and overseeing all aspects of construction management, field inspection, and stakeholder coordination throughout the project’s duration.
GRAEF provided the project engineer, a full-time inspection team, and served as the Public Involvement liaison. With a continuous on-site presence, GRAEF ensured that all construction activities met design specifications and adhered to project standards. The team worked directly with residents, adjacent businesses, and key stakeholders to manage traffic staging, address concerns, and maintain clear communication, helping to minimize disruption throughout the reconstruction process.
To improve project efficiency, GRAEF performed pavement density testing in-house, eliminating the need for a separate subcontractor. This proactive approach resulted in both cost savings and timely data delivery to support construction progress. As the project advanced, GRAEF collaborated closely with the client and contractor to identify and resolve several plan errors and omissions, ensuring safety and maintaining the overall project schedule.
Major project components included the installation of a new storm sewer system with a detention pond, construction of a cast-in-place retaining wall barrier system, installation of a new watermain for the City of Franklin, and the addition of bike lanes and sidewalks throughout the project limits. To enhance traffic operations, the project also featured new overhead sign structures and modern monotube traffic signals.
The successful completion of the USH 45 Reconstruction Project delivered a safer, more resilient, and multi-modal transportation corridor.
