Milwaukee Art Museum
The Milwaukee Art Museum’s expansion project is an important anchor of the City of Milwaukee’s current cultural renaissance. GRAEF provided structural and site/civil engineering as well as associate landscape architecture for this world-class art museum addition. GRAEF also performed initial environmental site studies and obtained permits in this unique, lakebed site. The expansion provides the museum with 140,000 additional square feet or 30 percent more space including traveling exhibition galleries, as well as a 98-car underground parking structure.
The expansion responds to institutional growth and furthers the museum’s longstanding commitment to collections building and providing visitors opportunities to experience important works of art. The new facility provides the City with a striking landmark and enhances the Museum’s role as the cultural cornerstone for Southeastern Wisconsin.
The building has received world-wide acclaim and was named Time Magazine’s Number One Design of 2001, ASCE OPAL Award Winner, and 14 other state and national awards.
