James A. Haley VA Hospital Polytrauma Floor Renovation
The James A. Haley Veterans Affairs Hospital is a 327-bed, tertiary care, teaching hospital staffed and equipped to perform many highly specialized procedures. The facility serves veterans in eight counties of Central Florida. The hospital is renovating its polytrauma floor which provides intensive medical care and treatment for seriously-wounded veterans.
GRAEF provided structural design for the renovation. Construction documents were prepared and sorted into separate bid packages to facilitate phased construction. Structural modifications included new floor penetrations and depressions, patient lift supports, cladding modifications and mechanical room modifications, including catwalks and equipment platforms.
GRAEF performed limited commissioning services for the HVAC systems, controls and test and balance during the construction phase. Equipment commissioned included one 100 percent outside air handling unit, 25 terminal units, 27 terminal units with hot water reheat, two exhaust fans serving Bariatric Rooms, two hot water heat exchangers, one air separator, one expansion tank, five VFDs, one existing EF serving general exhaust, one fan coil unit, and controls system and graphics.
Controls commissioning included verifying the controls system points and setpoints on the user interface, verifying the occupied/unoccupied equipment schedule is programmed, verifying control sequences are operating, reviewing the control system point status reports and making recommendations as needed.
