Jackie Robinson Ball Park Expansion

Jackie Robinson Ballpark opened as the Daytona City Island Ballpark in 1914 and is the oldest ballpark still used in Minor League Baseball. “The Jack” is the current home of the Daytona Tortugas, the Single-A minor league affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. It’s named in honor of Jackie Robinson who integrated modern professional baseball while playing here in a spring training game on March 17, 1946, for the Montreal Royals, the Brooklyn Dodgers’ Triple-A farm team. Although Robinson had integrated the playing field, African American fans were forced to watch and cheer from the segregated viewing area. In 1947, Robinson would famously integrate major league baseball when he was called up by the Dodgers.

The renovation and expansion include the construction of a new 30,000 SF multi-story player development facility behind the right field fence complete with modern amenities such as home and visiting clubhouses, batting cages, umpire facilities, fitness/training spaces, fully equipped dining facilities, and office space. The new facility will also include a team shop, a multi-purpose event facility with seating overlooking the baseball field, and a museum dedicated to Jackie Robinson and his legacy.
