GRAEF is excited to announce the acquisition of Ken Boitz & Associates (KBA), a steel detailing firm based in Illinois.

The addition of KBA is a pivotal component of GRAEF's ongoing investment in GRAEFaccelerāte®  — a transformative initiative that unites top-tier talent, cutting-edge technology, and streamlined processes to drive industry-leading results. This process has already demonstrated success on numerous high-profile projects across the United States, including the Wisconsin Center District’s Baird Center, Fincantieri, Resch Expo Center, American Family Field, and various educational and healthcare institutions.

Established in 1985, KBA has spent over four decades providing exceptional steel detailing for some of the Midwest’s most iconic architectural landmarks, including Union Station, Roosevelt University, and the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital. While renowned for their contributions to high-profile buildings throughout Chicago and the Midwest, KBA’s portfolio extends across a diverse range of projects, from light and heavy structures to high-rise buildings and rail systems.

“The integration of KBA is a natural fit for GRAEF,” said Mike Vogel, GRAEFaccelerāte® lead. “Their expertise in steel detailing and commitment to quality align perfectly with our values. KBA’s impressive portfolio, including work on some of Chicago’s most iconic structures, speaks volumes about their capabilities, and we are confident this acquisition will propel us forward and help maintain our leadership in the industry.”

Effective immediately, KBA will be named GRAEF and operate as an extension of GRAEF’s steel detailing capabilities. This acquisition strengthens GRAEF’s overall service offerings while maintaining the high standards of excellence and innovation both firms are known for.

“We’re thrilled to join GRAEF and become part of a respected, forward-thinking company,” said Larry Dearman, President and Owner of KBA. “After more than four decades of detailing steel, it was essential for us to partner with a team that values precision, strong relationships, and the lasting impact of our work. With GRAEF, we’re confident our legacy will continue to thrive, and we look forward to offering even greater value to our clients.”

Larry Dearman will continue his career with GRAEF.
