Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport Terminal 3 BHS/CBIS
GRAEF provided engineering services as part of a design-build team for a new Checked Baggage Inspection System (CBIS) and Baggage Handling System (BHS) in Terminal 3 at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), supporting JetBlue Airways operations.
The project involved the design and construction of new facilities, along with strategic modifications to existing spaces and systems. GRAEF’s scope included structural, mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, and civil engineering services to support the installation of a high-capacity in-line baggage screening system capable of processing up to 3,200 bags per hour. Additional improvements included a new outbound baggage handling system and extensive underground utility modifications to accommodate the new infrastructure.
Given the active airport environment, the team implemented detailed phasing and coordination strategies to minimize disruptions to airline operations and passenger flow, ensuring a seamless integration of new systems into the terminal’s daily functions.
