Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport BHS Expansion

GRAEF designed a baggage handling system (BHS) expansion at the Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport (VPS) for Okaloosa County, Florida. On this project, GRAEF provided site/civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and structural engineering.

The scope of work included the design and all related elements for the expansion and optimization of the existing BHS. The entire system was evaluated in design and inefficiencies such as ticket counters, t-merges, plow merges, bag queuing, oversize baggage handling and baggage make-up capacity were addressed.

Additionally, in order to provide an efficient, inline checked baggage inspection system (CBIS), the footprint of the building was extended to accommodate the expansion of the BHS/CBIS. The system expansion will integrate seamlessly into the existing system/components. As part of the design team, GRAEF developed bid documents including final design documents, technical specifications and bid set of final plans.
