Alliant Energy Center
GRAEF played a key role in developing a comprehensive campus master plan for the Alliant Energy Center (AEC), establishing a long-term vision to guide improvements over the next 15–20 years. The plan balanced previous visioning efforts with new, forward-thinking strategies to expand event and exhibition space and attract private development, including hotels, restaurants, retail, and housing.
A highly collaborative, 10-month planning process engaged three stakeholder committees made up of elected officials, neighborhood residents, business and property owners, campus users, peer institutions, and city representatives. Their input, gathered through meetings, workshops, and direct outreach, ensured that the final plan reflected both the functional needs of the campus and the broader community’s aspirations.
Engagement also extended to representatives from the Town of Madison, City of Fitchburg, local businesses, and neighborhood organizations, reinforcing regional coordination.
GRAEF provided civil, stormwater, and transportation engineering, as well as comprehensive traffic planning services. This included trip generation studies,
access and circulation strategies for all travel modes, phased parking solutions, and infrastructure planning to support future development. The result is a flexible,
community-centered roadmap that positions the AEC campus for sustainable, integrated growth.
