West Allis Memorial Hospital–Aurora Women’s Pavilion Parking
West Allis Memorial Hospital opened a 207,000-square-foot facility, specifically designed to meet the health and wellness needs of women. The six-story pavilion includes a 500-car parking structure and connects to the main hospital by a skywalk. GRAEF provided the structural, site/civil, transportation, parking design and 10-acre site reconfiguration for the facility.
The new cast-in-place, concrete facility incorporated pressure-meter testing to maximize soil bearing and a 30 percent recycled cement concrete mix. The environmentally-friendly elements also resulted in a substantial cost savings for the hospital.
GRAEF worked with the City of West Allis to vacate existing and dedicate new rights-of-way and relocate the existing public storm sewer and water main. Special consideration was taken during the site design to avoid negative impacts to the hospital’s existing linear accelerator. Site work also included abandonment and relocation of existing underground utilities, design of parking lots, design of new utilities and layout, grading, and drainage of a new healing garden.
