Quad/Graphics, Inc. Oklahoma Facility Expansion
Quad/Graphics expanded their Oklahoma City facility as part of their overall Oklahoma master plan. With additional phases and buildings intended for this campus, it was important to maintain design flexibility for additions to the south and west. GRAEF included a plan for a future expansion to the east, the lower level of which would be lower than this plant expansion.
GRAEF designed a temporary wall that can be removed after future expansion, if necessary. GRAEF developed a Revit (CADD) model to show how the grade beams will span between the caissons, supporting the building during expansion to the east. The Revit model also offers the client a better understanding of how the structural supports affect their space planning. In this case, the expansion joints required at the center of the building needed braced frames for each side of the joint. Raised braced frames were used to maintain maximum traffic flow within the plant.
As Quad/Graphics moves forward in the development of their Oklahoma City Master Plan, the Revit models for portions of the existing plant that already built can be used for planning each addition. Construction will become easier whent he new addition designs can be attached to existing models.
