Lake Nona Medical City VA SimLearn Facility

GRAEF is providing plumbing, fire protection, and lab gas design for a 20,000 s.f. research laboratory space located in Lake Nona’s Medical City. Approximately 75% of the space will support heavy wet-lab research, with the remaining 25% dedicated to office space. The space will be built as a second floor structure above the Simulation Learning, Education and Research Network National Simulation Center (SimLEARN, for short) which was designed by others and is currently being constructed. Design must also be able to support three additional stories (vertical expansion) in the future.

This will be a national medical simulation training center, as part of the campus of the new Veterans Medical Center in Orlando. The new Veterans Health Administration SimLEARN Center will use simulation and other technologies to provide medical training to hospital trainers from throughout the VA system. In addition, the center will provide space for the development of new simulation programs and education curricula to address national VA clinical priorities, such as women veterans’ health and surgical team training.
