Komatsu Fabrication Building

Komatsu Fabrication Building

Komatsu Mining Corp. is building a new fabrication building in Longview Texas. The 167,000-square-foot heavy manufacturing facility will produce the world’s largest wheel loader with an operating weight of 477,100 - 486,250 pounds.

The facility includes two crane bays with two 50-ton gantry bays each. There are also several semi-gantry cranes under the bridge crane. Due to the size of the equipment built in the facility, it was built on 50-foot fill, with very deep drilled foundation piers. The site pavement also utilized roller-compacted concrete that has the strength to withstand heavy and specialized loads. The facility also include support areas including two 4,500-square-foot offices, and employee support areas.

Sustainability is at the forefront of this project with a goal attain a 100% sustainable energy design. GRAEF’s engineers and architects are providing full-service solutions to help Komatsu achieve this goal. A main feature of the building is the large solar ray roof-mounted panels, contributing to the sustainability goal.
